Report on Skye Botany Group Excursion

We struggled up through bracken and Molinia, mostly avoiding the conifer plantations, to reach the target tetrad NG35C for which there as one previous vascular plant record and no bryophyte records.

We now know why. Several hours in the tetrad led to 96 vasculars and 59 bryophytes with no vascular plant meriting a photo or a more accurate grid reference.

However, we had a good walk, the scenery was fine and we saw a few amphibians, birds and insects including this Northern Eggar – not a great photo but enough for identification purposes.

We walked through the adjacent tetrad NG35H and achieved 115 taxa without trying too hard.
