Neil & Jesse Come Back to Skye

Neil and Jesse were part of Bradford Botany Group’s week-long visit to Skye and Raasay in 2007. Last week they came back intending to see Dactylorhiza traunsteinerioides (Narrow-leaved Marsh-orchid), Cephalanthera longifolia (Narrow-leaved Helleborine) and Ophioglossum azoricum (Small Adder’s-tongue).

With a little assistance they found the first two, but they ran out of time before finding the third.  However, as well as Dactylorhiza traunsteinerioides they found one example of its hybrid with Dactylorhiza incarnata (Early Marsh-orchid). This is a plant that I found elsewhere on Skye in 2008. There are only 26 records in 9 hectads listed on the BSBI Distributional Database before this one. I am promised photos next week.
