Hesperis again and Alder Tongue Gall on Raasay

Steve tells me that the Hesperis matronalis (Dame’s-violet) I failed to find at Lusa was cut down subsequent to his seeing it. Images from June:

This morning, now that the rain has let off a bit, I spotted Alder Tongue (Taphrina alni) on an alder all  of 150 m from our house.  This appears to be a first for Raasay. I have noticed before that as in this case there can be a single tree covered in these galls whilst others nearby remain totally gall-free.

I have looked at quite a few sycamores on Raasay but not seen the tarspot fungus yet.
