Insects & Plants Update

I have finally seen some honey bees in the garden this week and also my first Magpie Moth of the year, though  I gather Steve has been seeing them for about three weeks.  Also the Scotch Argus butterflies are now flying.

Steve has sent me his July records which include some nice finds – notably Centaurium erythraea (Common Centaury) from the Lusa area – the only previous record for this 10km square was vague in the extreme.

Marie has spotted Impatiens glandulifera (Himalayan Balsam) on the roadside at Gearymore and Bill & Deirdre have sent records from one of the lochs with a lot of Eriocaulon aquaticum (Pipewort), and also a new site for Botrychium lunaria (Moonwort).

I shall return to the Storr Story (Storry?) tomorrow.
